Home – after 9 months is a kennel (June 2023)

This was the Facebook post that appeared again, and again – shares from the original post from Uitenhage SPCA. Nitro needed a home – and needed out of the kennels soonest! He had previously been adopted, but after 6 months SPCA took him back in, as the situation he was in, was not acceptable. Share after share, and there was a couple of applications for him, but unfortunately the home-checks were not passed.
Like many Husky fans, I could not bear to see him sitting like he was, in the kennels. Trawling through my contact list one evening, I came across a name of a someone who had enquired about availability of pet-friendy accomodation in Hogsback. Recalling that she had a Husky, I sent this post to her, and she agreed to go and meet him.
When she did, she fell in love with him, as did her Husky CiCi. She filled in the adoption application, and was told that there were two other applications as well, but SPCA would check each one for suitability
About a week and a half went past, and we heard nothing. Then one evening I got a very excited whatsapp, “Passed the home check! He’s mine! He’s coming home!”
That Saturday, she went to collect him. From now, he will be known as Ates, which is Turkish for Fire, which suits his coat colour perfectly.

After a long wait, a happy homing for Ates. Although we only had a very small part to play in this, what is important is that he now has a happy home and a mom that loves him.
Many thanks to Nicole for sharing all the photos, and for allowing us to share Ates’ happy story.
